Relief From Assessment Work for Ontario Mining Claim Holders
- By Pilot Law LLP
On April 17, 2020, the Ontario Ministry of Energy, Northern Development and Mines announced an initiative to extend the due date for assessment work on Ontario mining claims for up to 12 Months.
This is being enacted though a procedure to obtain “Simplified Exclusion Orders”. Claim holders with claim anniversary dates on or before December 31, 2020 will be given an Exclusion Order by making a brief request via email. To obtain an Exclusion Order, claim holders or their authorized agents must email the Provincial Recording Office (firstname.lastname@example.org) before the anniversary date of the claim, but no earlier than 30 days before the claim’s anniversary date. Contiguous claims on which work will be allocated can also be included in the Exclusion Order, even if the anniversary date is more than 30 days away.
